ESX installato dentro VMware Workstation

VMware Workstation 6.5 è in grado di creare una virtual machine ESX. In questo modo è possibile su un computer o addirittura un portatile crearsi un’intera infratruttura vmware per i più disparati test.

La procedura per creare una virtual machine per ESX è molto semplice:

– creare una virtual machine di tipo Custom

– scegliere la compatibilità con WS 6.5

– impostare come sistema operativo Linux Kernel, Other

– Assegnare 2 processori

– Assegnare almeno 1024 MB di Ram

– Impostare la scheda di rete in Bridged (da cambiare in seguito assegnandola a un Team)

– Scegliere come controller disco LSI

– Creare un nuovo disco SCSI secondo esigenze, consiglio almeno 10 GB, importante crearlo preallocato e in file singolo

– Personalizzare l’hardware e togliere scheda audio, usb e floppy; impostare l’execution mode su Intel VT-x

– editare il file .vmx e aggiungere:

ethernet.virtualDev = “e1000”

monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = “true”

A questo punto sarà possibile installare ESX. Per avere un ambiente isolato impostare la scheda di rete su un  Team appositamente creato (un gruppo di virtual machines corrispondente a un ambiente multi machines).
