vStorage API for Array Integration

Le vStorage API for Array Integration (VAAI) sono nuove API disponibili per gli storage partners per incrementare le performance dei loro array in vsphere. Una volta abilitate (ricordatevi che bisogna aggiornare i vari firmware dei componenti presenti, e soprattutto possedere una licenza Enterprise Plus) permettono di scaricare da vsphere tre attività:

  • Full copy permette all’array di realizzare copie complete di dati senza che ESX debba leggere o scrivere dati
  • Block zeroing permette all’array di effettuare lo zero out di una grande mole di blocchi in autonomia
  • Hardware-assisted locking è probabilmente la feature più intrigante, in quanto lo storage partecipa attivamente al locking dei metadati in vmfs

VMware ha inoltre rilasciato un demo video, che ci spiega come funziona VAAI:

Trovate inoltre alcuni video di produttori come NetApp e HP che dimostrano le loro applicazioni storage che supportano VAAI.
