Creare un purple screen

Il purple screen in ESX è l’equivalente del famigerato Blue Screen di windows. Quando il kernel di esx va in panic, si crea il purple screen e viene effettuato un core dump.

E’ possibile creare volutamente un kernel panic in questo modo:

  1. entrare in support mode su ESX
  2. invocare la shell vsish
  3. digitare set /reliability/crashMe/Panic (supporta la completion)
  4. gustarsi il purple screen come quello di seguito creato in un ESXi 4.1 ospitato con Fusion sul mio mac

A cosa potrebbe service questo comando ancora non mi è ben chiaro, di sicuro al prossimo corso lo userò per simulare HA 🙂
