Detto in gergo CBT, è una funzione introdotta con ESX 4 quando abbinato a virtual machine che utilizzino l’hardware in versione 7.

La virtual machine in questo caso può tenere traccia dei settori disco che sono stati modificati, e svariati software di backup specifici per vmware possono sfruttare questa tecnologia per i backup incrementali.

Come verificare la sua attivazione? Ecco alcuni passi:

– nel file di configurazione vmx della virtual machine dovete trovare il valore ctkEnable = “TRUE”

– per ogni disco posseduto dalla virtual machine ci sarà una voce nel file vmx del tipo scsix:x:.ctkEnabled = “TRUE”

– per ogni disco o snapshot avrete nel datastore un file del tipo vmname-ctk.vmdk piuttosto che vmname-000001-ctk.vmdk
