Il laboratorio per i test hands-on a WMWorld 2009 è una delle cose più affascinanti dell’intera conferenza:

– 776 ESX Servers
– 37 Terabyte internal RAM Memory
– 6208 Cores
– 348 TB of Shared Storage

Niente male eh? Ma chi c’è dietro alla realizzazione di questo sistema, che per dirla con Richard Garsthagen (Senior Evangelist for VMware in EMEA) è “un datacenter da più di 700 server che sarà usato per una settimana soltanto”. Beh, Richard ha intervistato Dan Anderson, il papà di questo piccolo gioiello:

Fate caso a quel che dice a un certo punto Dan: “più o meno ci sono esposti 35 milioni di dollari di materiale”. E se pensate al lavoro svolto, tutto il sistema è stato prima assemblato e testato nei laboratori di vmware, quindi spento/inscatolato/spedito a san francisco e riassemblato per VMWorld.
