Veeam Backup & Replication 7 preview #3: Veeam Explorer for Microsoft SharePoint

Veeam has accelerated it release pace about the new upcoming features for the next major v7 version of Veeam Backup & Replication. It took a month between the first announcement (support for vCloud Director) and the second (integration with vSphere Web client), but yesterday after only a week it came out the third news, that is the support for Microsoft SharePoint.

Just like the Explorer for Exchange, this tool will allow for granular restores of any object inside a Microsoft Sharepoint backup. I never had deep experiences with this Microsoft product, but many Sharepoint admins told me the object restore is not a trivial task, so this tool is going to be a great addition to and admin toolset.

Also, just like the Explorer for Exchange, this tool will be available also in the free edition of Veeam Backup & Replication; bacause of the wide spread of Exchange and SharePoint among companies, this offer is for sure a great commercial move by Veeam.

Veeam ha accelerato non poco nell’annunciare le funzioni che la prossima versione 7 di Veeam Backup & Replication avrà. Se era passato un mese tra la prima (supporto a vCloud Director) e la seconda (integrazione con vSphere Web client), ieri dopo solo una settimana è stata annunciata la terza novità, il supporto per Microsoft SharePoint.

Così come il suo omologo tool per esplorare i backup di Exchange, anche questo nuovo tool permetterà di effettuare ripristini granulari di qualsiasi oggetto contenuto in SharePoint. Non ho mai avuto esperienze significative con questo prodotto Microsoft, ma da quello che mi ha sempre raccontato chi ci ha provato, il restore di un oggetto non è un’attività banale; quindi il nuovo strumento è sicuramente un’aggiunta gradita.

Esattamente come per l’Explorer per Exchange, questo tool sarà disponibile anche nella versione gratuita del prodotto principale; vista la diffusione di Exchange e SharePoint nelle aziende, la mossa è sicuramente vincente da un punto di vista commerciale.
